‘Rock Around The Clock’

words and music and stories

On Saturday, 9 July 1955Bill Haley & Comets’ “Rock Around the Clock” topped the charts where it stayed for eight weeks.
It was not the first rock and roll record, nor was it the first successful record of the genre but this song, whose  original full title was “We’re Gonna Rock Around the Clock Tonight!”,  was the first able to surge to the top of all three different categories compiled by Billboard magazine at the time: Best Sellers in Stores, Most Played By Disc Jockeys, and Most Played in Juke Boxes.
In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or artistically significant.”

‘Rock Around The Clock’

One, two, three o´clock, four o´clock, rock
Five, six, seven o´clock, eight o´clock, rock
Nine, ten, eleven o´clock, twelve o´clock, rock
We´re gonna rock around the clock tonight
