UNA MARATONA ACCADEMICA ONLINE PER SALVARE AHMADREZA DJALALI

Scienziati da tutto il mondo in diretta streaming sui canali UPO per il medico iraniano-svedese condannato a morte

Ahmadreza Djalali, il medico iraniano-svedese condannato a morte dalle istituzioni del suo paese per spionaggio, sta attendendo che la sentenza venga eseguita; potrebbe accadere da un giorno all’altro. Djalali è stato un ricercatore presso il Centro di Medicina dei Disastri (Crimedim) dell’Università del Piemonte Orientale, la Vrije Universiteit di Bruxelles e il Karolinska Institutet di Stoccolma. Non è mai stata fornita alcuna prova dell’attività criminosa di cui è accusato.

L’UPO da tempo si batte da tempo affinché la giustizia venga ristabilita e ha coinvolto le istituzioni nazionali e internazionali per ottenere la liberazione di Ahmad. In questo momento, in cui il filo di speranza pare recidersi, organizza, attraverso il Crimedim, una Maratona di scienziati, professori e ricercatori che porteranno un loro messaggio in diretta streaming sul canale YouTube dell’UPO (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBPWtp2U_5-qwuAW9XmY3eA) a partire dalle ore 15 di mercoledì 9 dicembre fino al termine degli interventi.

Nel momento in cui scriviamo hanno già aderito 101 relatori, provenienti da Italia, Argentina, Australia, Belgio, Canada, Colombia, Etiopia, Francia, Giappone, India, Irlanda, Israele, Paesi Bassi, Portogallo, Regno Unito, Spagna, Sri Lanka, Stati Uniti d’America, Svezia, Svizzera. C’è da credere che la Maratona possa durare fino al giorno successivo: una no-stop di 24 ore.

Seguire l’evento anche per poco è l’atto concreto che ognuno può attuare per dimostrare la propria solidarietà per Ahmad e sottolineare che la scienza e la ricerca devono rimanere libere da ogni condizionamento politico.

Scientists all over the world live on UPO channels for the Iranian-Swedish doctor sentenced to death

Ahmadreza Djalali, the Iranian-Swedish physician sentenced to death for espionage by his native country institutions, may face execution in the next days. Djalali is a well-respected expert in disaster medicine who has worked at the Research Center in Emergency and Disaster Medicine (CRIMEDIM) of the Università del Piemonte Orientale (Italy), at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), and at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (Sweden). No material evidence has ever been provided of the criminal activity of which he is accused.

UPO has been fighting for a long time to restore justice and has involved national and international institutions to obtain Ahmad’s release. At this moment, when the thread of hope seems to be severed, UPO organizes, through Crimedim, a massive online Marathon of scientists, researchers and academics who will bring their message live on the UPO YouTube channel (https://www.youtube. com / channel / UCBPWtp2U_5-qwuAW9XmY3eA), starting from 3 pm CET on Wednesday 9 December until the end of the speeches.

At the time of writing, 101 speakers have already joined the event, from Italy, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Japan, India, Ireland, Israel, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA. UPO envisages that the Marathon could last until the next day: a 24h non-stop event.

Following the event even briefly is the most concrete act that everyone can put in place to show their solidarity with Ahmad and emphasize that science and research must remain free from any political conditioning.
