La sua età,
molte rughe.
Non è sempre stato così;
era solito bere vino rosso;
una volta si sentì nel peccato,
pianse e pregò,
finchè vide Dio come un bagliore.
Di recente è andato al villaggio,
ha visto la quercia ingiallita,
la fonte sacra ridotta in polvere,
l’erba del prete,
e Allah lontano oltre le montagne,
lontano, lontano,
invisibile.

Mosha e tij,
rrudhat e shumta.
Ai s’ka qenë gjithmonë kështu;
pinte verë të kuqe;
një herë e ndjeu veten fajtor,
qau dhe u lut,
derisa Zoti iu shfaq si një dritë plot shkëlqim.
Së fundi ai shkoi në fshat,
pa pemën e lisit të tharë,
gurin e ujit të shenjtë që ishte bërë hi,
barin e priftit,
dhe Allahun pas maleve,
larg, shumë larg,
të padukshëm fare.

a lot of wrinkles.
He wasn’t always like that;
he used to drink red wine;
once he felt guilty,
he wept and prayed,
until he saw God as a glow.
He recently went to the village,
he saw the oak tree withered,
the holy-water font was ash,
the priest grass,
and Allah far behind the mountains,
far, far away,
invisible.
